This full-day symposium, jointly organised by two Hong Kong government-funded project teams – one of which includes all eight universities funded by the Hong Kong University Grants Committee (UGC) – aims to bring together educators, researchers, and administrators to explore the transformative potential of generative AI in higher education. With a focus on innovation, best practices, and real-world impact, the event will foster insightful discussions.

We are honoured to have PolyU’s Vice President (Education), Professor Kwok-yin Wong, to deliver a Welcome Address, followed by the Secretary-General of the Hong Kong UGC, Professor James Tang, to enlighten us with an Opening Address. We are also privileged to feature distinguished speakers and engaging sessions, including:

  • Keynote Presentation: ‘(Re)framing the GenAI System Shock in Higher Education’, delivered by Professor Simon Buckingham Shum, Professor of Learning Informatics and Director of the Connected Intelligence Centre, University of Technology Sydney, Australia

  • Roundtable Discussion: ‘GenAI: Augmenting and Undermining Student Learning – Making Sense of the Dual Impact’, featuring leaders from education- and innovation-focused centres in UGC-funded universities
